AMBERTEERS AUDITION FOR BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT
Well done to two Amberteers who were invited to audtion for television's hit show, 'Britain's Got Talent' in December. Thomas has been dancing since he was nine years old, many times on the streets of towns around the UK, but never to an audience before. Thomas is passionate about dance and is pursuing his goal of being a choreographer. Karla is a very talented singer and recently played the lead role in an Amber pantomime which involved singing a solo number. They will know next month if they have got through to the next round, we fervently hope they do!

AMBER LAUNCHES HOMELESS APP
Amber has developed a new smartphone app , the Amber Homeless Helper, that helps people concerned about homelessness to find support and resources within a chosen radius of where they are in the United Kingdom.  The app allows people to choose what sort of assistance to search for and shows where help can be found on a map of the area. There are also navigation instructions to find the way by car, bus or walking.  The app is available on Android and Apple phones and is free to download.

HILTON SWINDON PRESENT AMBER WITH A CHEQUE
Staff from the Hilton Swindon presented Amber with a cheque for £1,526
raised from their long-distance charity fitness challenge 'Around the World in
a Day' which is part of the Hilton in the Community Foundation fundraising
programme. Both Hilton staff and Amberteers kept a piece of LivingWell gym
equipment going for 24 hours in the hotel lobby and ‘cycled’ 586 kilometres,
their contribution to the Hilton group ‘virtually’ circumnavigating the
   circumference of the world.

    COMPANY MITIE TO THE RESCUE
Both Bythesea Lodge and Farm Place are enjoying major facelifts at their
centres, thanks to volunteer staff from the company MITIE. At Bythesea
Lodge staff from the Bristol office painted the entire dining and recreational
area and at Farm Place staff from Surrey transformed a paddock into a
sustainable garden and vegetable plot. At both centres the Amberteers
joined in and helped too and were delighted withthe finished results.

AMBER AT CENTRE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE
Amber was one of the short listed charities for the Centre for Social Justice awards 2011. Out of almost 400 charities, Amber was one of the 19 shortlisted. We didn't quite make the final 7 but we were invited to the award ceremony attended by Iain Duncan Smith and other MPs and celebrities, to receive a certificate and £1,000 cheque sponsored by Home Group, one of the leading providers of affordable and supported housing for people in the UK.

GAMBIAN VISTORS
A group of 6 young adults from Gunjar in the Gambia spent the day on Amber’s canal boat, working the Caen Hill locks at Devizes, steering the boat, managing the lock gates and entertaining everyone with great drum playing and singing along the way. The visit was part of a month long trip to Wiltshire organised by the Marlborough Brandt Group (MBG) that first established the link in Gunjur in 1982.
