The programme is designed to highlight service users issues with alcohol, increase awareness of the harm that might be caused through over consumption as well as reducing the amounts and frequency of consumption where it is decided that there is a problem or opportunity to develop greater control.
The programme format works over three distinct levels:
Step one
This is covered by the delivery and achievement of the unit “Exploring Alcohol issues”. Here the service user is screened and will, with the support of their worker, explore their own usage and decide how to progress. This progression will be either to level two or to access other professional support.
Step two
This is covered by the unit “Alcohol Awareness”. This unit looks at current sensible drinking guidelines as well as harm reduction, sign posting, the law, health issues, emergency situations, and links to violent crime, unsafe sex and anti-social behaviour.
Step Three
Here there is a choice of units, each used to support the candidate to reduce or control their use of alcohol either by directly designing and following a reduction plan or by participating in diversionary activities. The unit or units chosen will be determined by their level of need.
Units available include;
· Alcohol Awareness - A 6 Step Plan (a unit based on a self-help reduction plan published by the NHS).
· Personal Time Management.
· Planning for Education, Training and Employment.
· Following Working Practices, and Working as Part of a Team.
All of the units will be written as stand alone units, they will form a basis for engagement and sign posting is integrated into the methodology. The units can be delivered on a 1:1 basis or in groups. There are no time limits. Delivery staff carries out assessment and the full range of techniques are available to counter learner difficulties and ensure equality of opportunity in reference to access.
All units are verified by Amber Practical Training and quality assured by AQA.
